Childhood Sexual Abuse

If you were sexually abused as a child, we want you to know that you are not alone. Coming forward after being sexually abused is very difficult, and it takes a lot of courage to tell your story and seek justice.

At the Simpson Tuegel Law Firm, we understand the profound and long-lasting effects that such a traumatic experience as child sexual abuse can have on a person’s life. Led by Michelle Simpson Tuegel, a nationally recognized survivor advocate, our team is committed to seeking justice for survivors while acknowledging and addressing the profound impact of these experiences on their lives.

Our firm brings a unique, empathetic, and holistic approach to representing survivors, emphasizing not just the legal aspects but also the emotional and psychological well-being of our clients. We understand that the journey to justice for childhood sexual abuse survivors involves much more than just a court case—it’s about finding a path to healing, regaining control, and reclaiming one’s life.

Our expertise

We understand the complexities of the many different situations and environments in which childhood sexual abuse occurs. Our firm has vast experience in dealing with a multitude of scenarios, and we are equipped to handle a variety of cases including:

  • Youth Sports and Athletic Organizations: We represent survivors who have suffered abuse at the hands of coaches, trainers, or other authority figures within sports organizations, where the dynamics of power and competitive pressure can create a breeding ground for such misconduct.
  • Religious Organizations and Clergy: We work on cases involving pastors, priests, and other religious leaders, as well as the organizations that enable and protect abusers, who can violate the sacred trust placed in them in the most appalling ways.
  • Camps and Scouting Organizations: We handle cases involving camp counselors, scout leaders, or other individuals who exploit these often-unsupervised environments to commit acts of abuse.
  • Schools and Educational Institutions: We manage cases involving teachers, administrators, or other school personnel who have exploited their positions of trust to commit acts of abuse.
  • Daycare and Childcare Facilities: We represent survivors who have been abused in a daycare or childcare setting by daycare providers who fail to provide the safe and nurturing environment they promise, leading to unimaginable harm to the children in their care.
  • Medical and Healthcare Environments: We fight for survivors of abuse perpetrated by doctors, therapists, or other medical professionals who exploit their position to victimize the very individuals they are supposed to help.
  • Workplaces: We also represent minors who have been abused in a workplace setting by colleagues, supervisors, or employers, acknowledging that no place should be exempt from safety and protection.

Over the years, the Simpson Tuegel Law Firm has represented numerous survivors of childhood sexual abuse, successfully advocating for them in court and achieving substantial verdicts and settlements.

USA Gymnastics

Michelle represented over two dozen former USA gymnasts who were sexually abused by USA Gymnastics national team doctor Larry Nassar. She served as one of the lead attorneys and helped negotiate a $380 million settlement with USA Gymnastics, the US Olympic & Paralympic committee, and their insurers in December 2021 – a groundbreaking result after a five-year legal battle.

New York Clergy Abuse

The Simpson Tuegel Law Firm has served as a steadfast advocate for hundreds of child sex abuse survivors who were abused by clergy, tirelessly working towards securing justice against their perpetrators and the Catholic dioceses that facilitated the abuse. Notably, Michelle, together with her co-counsel, represented 170 survivors from New York who bravely came forward and alleged Catholic priests abused them as children.
